Driving requires a lot more than understanding road signs and traffic laws, especially in the winter. As winter approaches student drivers should be especially cautious when driving in snow, ice or severe weather conditions.

“I just got my license a few months ago and I’m really nervous to drive on ice or snow because I never have before,” junior Morgan Keltz said.

According to www.hoosier.aaa.com, it is important to drive slowly on icy roads and know your breaks. Driving slow in the winter is a must because it helps you correct your driving faster if you fishtail or slide.

“In the winter I drive especially slow because you never know what is going to happen,” junior Cole Bennett said.

According to icyroadssafety.com if you are fishtailing or sliding it usually means you are going to fast. The best way to correct fishtailing is to turn the wheel of the car in the direction that the rear of your car is sliding. Practicing slow driving saves a lot of people from accidents.

“My car is not in the garage so in the morning I have to wake up super early to defrost my windshield, it’s a real pain,” Bennett said.

According to meteorologist Ken Weathers, the fastest way to defrost a windshield without using an ice scraper is to create a mixture of one part water and one part rubbing alcohol and spray it on your windshield.
