AP Test Registration

A full classroom rustles with the sound of rushing pens and the frantic turning of pages. As the end of the year quickly approaches, exam season also looms for many high school students. Not only are end-of-year finals a threat, but Advanced Placement (AP) tests, an early opportunity to earn college credit, are also scheduled soon.

“I’m taking the AP Literature test and the AP US History (APUSH) test,” junior Margaret Diehn said. “I have already signed up.”

Especially for those taking the exams for the first time, the process of preparation can be stressful and increase anxiety about the AP test.

“I’m worried about the AP Literature test because I’m scared to write three essays in (two) hours. I’m not worried (about the test environment)” Diehn said. “I feel like it’ll be the same as other standardized tests, just with a little more pressure.

Even for veteran students of AP classes and tests, the final assessment can pose problems for nerves.

“I’m definitely more worried about this year’s tests. I have more tests and they’re harder, I think,” senior Hope Manley said. “(I’m taking) AP Macro and Micro Economics, AP English Language and Composition and AP Physics 1.”

For those who are particularly concerned about a certain AP exam, there are a variety of ways to prepare effectively.

“(I’m nervous about) both Economics tests,” Manley said. “I study by reviewing class materials we’ve done all year.”

However, she advises those taking an AP exam for the first time not to be worried unduly, as long as they have been attentive students throughout the year.

“Just make sure you study and prepare yourself, and you should be fine. The teachers have spent all year preparing you for this test so just trust what you’ve been learning all year.”

The deadline for AP registration is Tuesday, March 28. Exams begin Monday, May 1 and continue until Friday, May 12.
