Environmental club is up and running at 7:15 every Friday morning in room 2313. Everyone is invited.
“Literally anyone that has any interest at all in the environment or animals or just general earth,” junior, Luke Swain, said.
The environmental club needs members. The club is a good way to get involved.
“Just get involved in general. It’s a good experience and you will really like it,” Swain said.
Environment club affects our schools in many ways.
“So if the club was gone then there would be no one to empty out the bins,…I feel like that’s important like our school needs to do our part to help start saving the environment and so it needs to continue so we can continue to collect the paper and plastic,” junior, Anna Kim, said.
Environmental club is more than recycling, they have a variety of activities they use to expand their knowledge of the environment.
“On Fridays in the morning and the afternoons we recycle and that is always fun we just walk around to each class pick up the bins and talk to each other and it’s a good time. Or we meet in Mr. Nowing’s room where we discuss issues and climate change is usually, because it’s a big thing,” Swain said.
The students are the ones who organize all club activities.
“What we [the students] normally do is every other week we will go and take the carts around and we will pick up the paper and plastic around the school, and until last year we didn’t have any plastic recycling. This year we are trying to see if we can ask the janitors to pick up like paper and plastic like once a week and then we will just have to take it out to the active bin or to the toaster because it’s honestly a lot of work to go through the whole school and some classes have a ton of paper,” Anna said.
With students being the main organizers, adding new projects is a struggle.
“Normally we have been so busy with picking up the paper and plastic that we haven’t had time to implement other projects without people actually taking initiative outside of the club… but something we would like to see this year is spending more of our time on other projects like maybe recycling a football games or something like a compost bin or maybe solar panels other things our school can do besides recycling,” Kim said.
The club would like to grow further through the school and hopefully, gain more members. Below is how to join!
