Nov. 8, 2016, is the day of the presidential election. We are only in the third week of the school year and we have already seen the rise of two political clubs, The Young Democrats led by Mr. Nowlin and the Young Republicans led by Mr. Russell.
Senior Pragya Chandra decided to continue the Young Democrats as her senior project. “It’s something I feel very strongly about and I’m passionate about it,” Chandra said.
The club invites speakers from across the state to come and inform the Young Democrats about the democratic party, track voter percentages and inform people about the candidates they could vote for. Members of the club will start calling registered voters who are on the ropes, about who they should vote for in the election.
“I think we can really make a difference with the election being this year,” Chandra said.
Chandra wants to help run voter registration, have speakers come in and talk to the club among other things. On Friday Aug. 19, the club invited the regional coordinator for the John Gregg campaign to speak. The speaker informed the club to talk to voters on the fence and how to concentrate their telecommunication time on certain demographics.
Meetings will be held every Friday at 7:15 a.m. in Mr. Nowlin’s room.
