AI has been making its way into our everyday lives. From asking Chat GPT aimless questions, to typing in prompts in hopes of generating a picture to their liking, people have fallen hard into AI life. Personally, I hate AI. I dislike every part about it; from how it hurts the environment to the loss of culture and identity in our society, as well as the intellectual decline I think we’ll see.
Recently, a new craze has hit TikTok: a Fruit Love Island made entirely by AI. It is a poor imitation of the original work, Love Island, which I’m already not fond of, but at least it’s a human creation. In the TikTok videos, or “episodes”, there is a cast of characters that are all humans shaped like fruit.
From the clips I’ve seen on other social media, it looks poor quality, uninteresting, and overall slop. The concept is unoriginal, the writing is terrible from being AI-generated, and the characters don’t even seem interesting. How are you supposed to be imitating film and not get the simplest ideas correct? If you’re going to take away jobs from thousands of artists, animators, voice actors, screenwriters, and directors, at least make the product good.
I find it so shocking that this abomination of a series has gained so much popularity and so quickly. It feels like we as a society are declining, and our brains are turning to mush. There should be no reason for millions of people to want to watch an AI generated cherry girl fall in love with a banana guy, or whatever the couples are. If you are interested in romance or reality TV just turn on the TV! There are so many shows that you haven’t watched yet, I’m certain. Even if the show is bad, at least the show isn’t bad and destroys the planet with it.
On a similar note, the sheer number of people I know that use AI on the regular was astounding. People I would regard as intelligent and capable people relying on AI for assignments. It isn’t because of the inability to do the tasks, but because they’re simply too lazy to do it themselves.
This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by law because there is no reason for people to be relying on AI for every assignment or using it to make shows when there are people specifically trained for that.
