2020 Recap

Australian Wildfires December 2019- January 2020

A record of 47 million acres was burned, many animals and people lost their homes, and at least 34 people died.

Prince Harry and Megan Markle quit the royal family – January 8th 

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex step down from the royal family to live a somewhat normal life.

COVID-19 Pandemic – January 9th 

The World Health Organization announced that the Coronavirus had surfaced in Wuhan, China, and in only a few short months it has spread to at least 20 million people around the world.

Kobe and Gianna Bryant passed away – January 26th 

At the end of January the Los Angeles Lakers player, Kobe Bryant, and his daughter were killed in a helicopter crash with seven others.

Impeachment Trial for Trump – January 16th – February 5th 

Trump was on trial for charges of asking Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. He was acquitted on February 5th.

Stock Market Crash – March 9th

The Coronavirus Pandemic caused a global recession as cities went into lockdown. On March 9th the stock market crashed and the Dow Jones industrial average dropped to the lowest it has ever been.

Black Live Matter Protests

After George Floyd passed away on May 25, many peaceful and violent protests were occurring throughout the world to stop police brutality and racial injustice.  

Death Rumors for Kim Jong Un

North Koren leader Kim Jong Un was thought to be severely ill or potentially dead as he missed important celebrations on April 15th  for his grandfather Kim II-sung. 

 Murder Hornets arrive in U.S

The first hornet was found in Washington State and was reported to be up to two inches. They are known as the Asian Giant Hornet and are very invasive.

Kamala Harris is chosen as the Democratic VP candidate- August 11th

Biden selected the California senator on August 11th, making Harris the first black women to potentially be Vice President 

Chadwick Boseman’s death- August 28th

His death shocked fans completely as he had many films produced during his four-year battle with colon cancer that he sadly lost.

Wildfires of the West Coast- August 16-17th

Wildfires from California to Washington State erupted. Millions of acres were burned and many families didn’t have homes. 

Trump Tested Positive for COVID-19

On October 2nd Trump and Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19. They spent three days in the hospital then was discharged to finish recovering at the White House

Joe Biden won the Presidential Election 

Joe Biden won the election after numerous votes were found and recounted. Biden also broke the record for the number of presidential votes in history with 81, 284, 000 votes.

COVID-19 VACCINE

A COVID-19 vaccine was announced on November 9th 2020. The vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective in COVID participants without any prior SARS-CoV-2 infection. Early December the FDA issued the first emergency authorization of the vaccine to people 16 and up.
