Cheer: Sport or Club

Cheer%3A+Sport+or+Club

Club: an association or organization dedicated to a particular interest or activity.

Cheer is not an organization nor is it an association. Cheer is a sport where members do complex stunts, dances, and cheers. Cheer is a sport, there is no doubt about it.

Everyone thinks that cheer is just a club where girls look pretty and shake pom pom’s but it is much more than that. Yes, part of cheer is the outfit and makeup but even more it is about the hard work and dedication. Cheerleaders spend more time practicing than they do performing, hours  are spent working on one thing that may not even end up being performed.

There are just as many, or more, concussions/injuries in cheer as football. In a survey 31% of cheerleaders have had a concussion. While 47% of football players have had a concussion, 33% of those concussions are gained during practice.  These percentages are not that far off from each other.

If golf is considered a sport then cheer is too. Cheer is not easy and it’s not something that anyone can do. It takes a lot of time and hard work.

These are not things you can learn and perfect in one practice. It takes multiple practices and several hours to perfect and make it performance ready. Cheer is 100% a sport.
