Cross Country on the Road to State

Once again, the  Women’s Cross Country Team is headed to state. Unlike years in the past, this year poses a few problems and new situations explained by sophomore Sydney Geckler.

“It’s going to be a very different year from last year,” Geckler said. “We lost four varsity girls last year, three graduated and one moved. This year we only have three returning varsity runners.”

Geckler went on to explain that the girls cross country team suffered many injuries this season.

“So many of the varsity are injured or have been recently injured that it is hard to know what is going to happen,” she said. “I ran varsity at the beginning of the year and then broke my foot three meets in.”

Other team members, including Jenn Guteman and Kirsten Ballard, also suffered injuries that affected the varsity team. Although the team is glad they made it to state, Geckler said that they might not be as good as last year, but that the team has grown a lot during the season.

“I think we are all really excited to go,” Geckler said. “We have all been working hard either trying to PR or come back from injury.”

The Bull Dog ladies will compete this Saturday at Terre Haute.
