Jem and the Holograms

After waiting months to watch “Jem and the Holograms,” my friends and I slide into the dark movie theater ready to see the film.

“Jem and the Holograms” premiered on Oct. 23. The protagonist, Jerrica, has an amazing singing and songwriting talent, but she is too shy to share it with anyone else. One night, Jerrica puts on makeup and a wig and records a video of her singing. Her sister, Kimber, hears her and tries to convince her to upload it online, but Jerrica refuses. Yet, without Jerrica’s acknowledgement, Kimber uploads the video. The next day the video goes viral and Jerrica, also known as Jem, gets internet famous. Since Jem had a costume when recording her video, no one knows who she is and the mystery of her identity engages her fans. At first, Jem is very hesitant about accepting her fame, but then she comes on board when she realized that the money could really help her family. Her sisters join her and they become a band. They sign with Starlight Music and move to Los Angeles. They have their first concert and everything seems great for them, until it isn’t. Due to Jem’s family financial problems, she asks Erica Raymond, the producer, for an early pay. Erica accepts with the condition of Jem becoming a solo artist. Jem, having no choice agrees, and everything goes downhill. The band breaks up and for a while it seems as though Jem forgets who she is. Later on her sisters come back and they all make up. They help Jem realize who she truly is and what she actually wants to do with her talent.

“Jem and the Holograms” was a great film. It was not just about getting famous and making money. It taught the audience to always find who they truly are. Each person has their own talent and needs to find a way to share it with people without losing their morals. This movie was funny, sad and definitely entertaining. Their songs were very catchy and they got stuck in my head for hours. I highly recommend “Jem and the Holograms” to anyone, as it can be watched with any age group.
