The decisions to participate in Black Friday or Cyber Monday- maybe even both- plagues many leading up to the day. For some it’s a diehard debate, a hill they would die on. For some reason or other you must pick one you must support either Black Friday or Cyber Monday and people will argue about which is better for hours.
The issue with Black Friday is that you have to stand outside and freeze to death for hours until it’s time to stampede into the store. Speaking of stampedes there’s always the infamous Black Friday brawls. Shoppers will fight each other for the items they want. The items they need. Some people think it’s worth it because your getting better deals on Cyber Monday deals are just as good as Black Friday deals, sometimes even better according to DealNews research over the years and you don’t have to deal with a battery charge.
Although Black Friday definitely has more certainty behind it. You get to see the products in real life for one, so you know exactly what you’re buying. You also have the security of getting your christmas gifts intime to be wrapped and under the tree by christmas eve, maybe even before. It just calms the holiday jitters and worries of gifts not arriving on time.
That’s one of the issues with Cyber Monday: the uncertainty. Not only can deliveries often take a lot longer than expected. As of 2023 1.7million packages are lost or stolen every day in the United States according to packlane.com. You also have no idea what you’re actually buying necessarily. All you get is pictures of the product, maybe measurements but those are not always accurate, especially clothing websites. Items could also be “out of stock” when they are actually in the store in person.
Many chose to participate in Cyber Monday so they don’t have to go to the store in person. They don’t enjoy the idea of going to a Black Friday sale and leaving with a black eye, or going to a store in general in some cases. It’s also almost certain that you’ll get the products you want because you can get notifications when products are back in stock while if they aren’t in store or go out of stock you never know when or for how long the item will come back. Most online stores will also help you replace or find items like the ones that are out of stock for the moment. With Cyber Monday it’s less likely to forget about items you wanted to buy too. Sometimes when you get into a rush at the store you forget things that could be completely gone if you don’t get them while you can. There’s also the bonus of being able to budget yourself more effectively because your cart is constantly telling you how much everything in it will cost.
Die on whatever hill you want when it comes to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday debate but I personally think Cyber Monday is so much better and way more convenient. I also have no idea why most people don’t just do both, so they can get all the deals possible. I don’t know why Black Friday shoppers wouldn’t shop on Cyber Monday too. Now some people are just homebodies or don’t enjoy brawling in the middle of their local mall. So that makes sense why they wouldn’t do both.
There will always be Black Friday shoppers but just know when you get asked the annual question of which sale day is better the answer is Cyber Monday. It’s budget friendly. You know that you’re getting everything that you need. You don’t have to get into a Black Friday Brawl and end up viral on Youtube, and Cyber Monday deals are sometimes actually better than Black Friday deals, and my message to diehard Black Friday shoppers is why not do both? By doing both you’re getting the best deals possible so if leaving the store with a black eye really makes your holiday season, and you know how to work a computer there is no reason to not do both. It’d really be the best of both worlds.
