Sabrina Carpenter’s most recent album, Short n’ Sweet, released on August 23rd of this year. Its pop sound and summery vibe has taken the world by storm. It encompasses Carpenter’s vulnerability and demonstrates how she is unapologetically herself.
Taste – The opening line is such a good album opener, very Sabrina. The music video is phenomenal. The entire song is a tad unhinged, but if someone wrote June Gloom about me, I’d write Taste too.
Please Please Please – Sounds so vintage pop I love it. Barry in the music video is kind of insane work and I love it.
Good Graces – A very solid song, but I don’t love it. Compared to the rest of the album it just doesn’t really stick out to me.
Sharpest Tool – One of my favorites, this song is just bar after bar. “Then a bird flies by and you forget,” “if that was casual then I’m an idiot” “seems like overnight I’m just the —— you hate now,” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Sabrina saved lives by not releasing this song two years ago because she knew I wouldn’t survive this one.
Coincidence – So incredibly petty and I’m here for it. And all the parallels between this and June Gloom… What a coincidence.
Bed Chem – I don’t know why but it took me a solid three days to realize that the title was Bed Chem and not Bad Chem. This song is absolutely amazing but definitely not one I would be playing on the radio.
Espresso – This was the song of the summer, it’s just so fun and pop. I’m just convinced Sabrina Carpenter is Barbie.
Dumb & Poetic – This is Ur So Gay by Katy Perry but so much better. It’s so at odds with the rest of the album, which very much sets it apart. The lyrics pack so much of a punch that the song lets them speak, the sound itself is very simple.
Slim Pickins – Yes Sabrina, I fear it is slim pickins out here. I love most of this song, but I find the “since the Lord forgot my gay awakening,” line really weird, especially with the other references throughout the album about queer women. (such as Sabrina and Jenna Ortega kissing in the Taste music video.) To me it feels very much for the male gaze, similar to Katy Perry’s most recent VMAs performance.
Juno – Absolutely unhinged and I love it. This whole song is so fun and pop princess, but another one I probably wouldn’t be playing around my little cousins.
Lie to Girls – Another very underproduced song that lets the lyrics stand on their own. It is so underrated, it’s very relatable. WE LOVE TO MISTAKE BUTTERFLIES FOR CARDIAC ARREST.
Don’t Smile – Sabrina, when I catch you. Pour my feelings in the microphone? I stay in and when the girls come home? I want one of them to take my phone? Take my phone and lose your? Number, I don’t want to be tempted? Pick up when you want to fall back in? You can fake it but you know I know, know I know? DON’T SMILE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED, BABY, CRY BECAUSE IT’S OVER. Such an underrated bop, I will never move on from this verse.

Overall, Carpenter’s newest album is no skip, it expresses the vulnerability of femininity, while also showing how women can express themselves, with no qualms about the opinions of others. She’s definitely staying in my good graces.
