Football Brief 10/9-10/10

Varsity:

This past Friday, the Columbus North varsity team played against the Bloomington North team and came out on top, with a score of 42-14.

This game determined Columbus North’s win of Conference Indiana, which is a high school athletic conference that includes teams from Columbus North, Terre Haute (North and South), Bloomington (North and South), and Southport.

During the beginning of the game, it didn’t take long for Bloomington to show their strength. “We quickly noticed how talented and fast the Bloomington quarterback was, it only took our defense one touchdown to know that we were in for a hard and long game.” Senior Bryan Lopez said.

But, by the beginning of the third quarter, the offense and defense began to ‘separate from Bloomington’ by being more conditioned and focussed.

By the fourth quarter, the varsity team was confident in securing the win, and sent out the junior varsity team. “Personally, playing Varsity and seeing the JV kids out on a Friday night game makes me feel happy because I was once a kid who was playing for the JV.” Lopez said.

With the win of Conference Indiana, North was happy with the win, and hope to continue their winning streak when they will travel to Terre Haute South on Friday Oct 16.

Junior Varsity:

On Saturday Oct 10, the junior varsity team traveled to Bloomington North high school to face off and eventually take the win, but not after a difficult game.

“It was a good win against an athletic Bloomington North team. We came out a little bit flat to start the game, but responded well to adversity.” said defensive line Coach Jordan Sharp.

Although we won, the team is not perfect. “The score was closer than it should have been because we lost some focus towards the end of the game.” Sharp said.

The team continues to improve every week, and Sharp was “pleased with the performance of all three phases of the game.” he said.

Next, Terre Haute will come to North this Saturday at 10 am.
