Some people dream of getting the newest, most high-end car on the market when purchasing a new vehicle. But for sophomore Blake Day, his dream car is a blast from the past.

“The car is 49 years old and one of the only ones in Southern Indiana since they weren’t originally sold in the US,” Day said. “[They] all had to be imported over due to it being a British car.”

The model of the car is a 1970 Land Rover Series 2A, and comes with many unique features.

“It is unique because it has rear bench seats on either side that face each other in the back,” Day said.

Despite the car’s age, its condition has not declined significantly since its early days.

“I got the car from a family friend that has had the car for a number of years but it just sat in his driveway,” Day said.

Even though the car functions properly, Day has opted to make some cosmetic changes in order to improve the overall appearance of the car.

“We have to repaint it and replace the doors,” Day said. “We have already replaced all the seats and seatbelts with new ones, stripped most of the old paint, put in a hardwood floor in the back. I am planning to put on a roof rack once I earn the money.”

After the car is finished, Day hopes to have gained knowledge and experience working with older cars.

“I wanted an old car so I could work on it and become more knowledgeable when it comes to cars,” Day said.
