Tips for the Perfect Essay
Idea after idea bouncing off your head; trying to figure out an essay topic. Questions pop up as you try to find out the hardest part of your essay. Do I go the easy route and pick a typical topic? Or do I challenge myself and pick a unique topic?
Writing an essay can be the most stressful part of an English class. When websites give “Essay Tips”, all they say is “pick a topic, write the introduction, the body and the conclusion.” Yet, there is more to writing a successful essay; relax, clear your head and do not procrastinate.
Relax. Relaxing is a big part when writing an essay. Some students tend to stress out too much and end up overthinking things. When students stress out too much over an essay, it impacts their essay writing negatively. If you want a good essay, don’t forget to relax.
Ways to Relax:
- Take deep breaths and think about anything else other than the essay
- Go watch tv in order to get your mind off the essay
- Take a nap
- Read a book of your choice
Clear your head. Clearing your head takes a big role when writing an essay. Some students tend to overthink things and end up scratching out good topic ideas. If too much time is spent on the essay take some time to clear your head, that way when you return you can get fresh ideas.
Ways to Clear your head:
- Listen to music
- Go on a walk
- Eat some dinner
- Get on social media
Do not procrastinate. Procrastination is your enemy when writing an essay. If you procrastinate, you are going to end up pulling an all nighter the night before in order to finish in time. Make sure you use your time wisely in and out of class. Procrastination can be the cause of an unorganized, bad quality essay.
Ways to avoid procrastination:
- Set a calendar with all your deadlines
- Meet all your deadlines
- Always remind yourself the things you need to get done that day
- Encourage yourself to get your work done
Although I cannot help with choosing a topic wisely or writing an essay outline, following these tips could help write a successful essay.
