Ever since the Duffer brothers announced that they were onto another project, I was ecstatic. Their new project was the hit Netflix show “Stranger Things”. If you haven’t heard of Netflix phenomenon by now, let me give you the rundown. After losing their best friend, three kids set out to find him and end up coming back with more than they expected.

It was July 15 and Netflix finally released “Stranger Things”. I ran to the kitchen and made a hot bowl of popcorn, a cold drink and pounced into bed. I soon clicked on the first episode; I was intrigued. “Stranger Things” shows a true throwback with it being set in Hawkins, IN, 1983. The show cuts to the four kids playing a game of Dungeons & Dragons, a popular game in the 1980’s. What I love most about this scene and the show, is that the kids act like actual kids. There are no censoring when it comes to them and that’s what makes their characters feel real and relatable.

Every character in “Stranger Things” adds an amazing aspect to each episode, but I have a few standouts. Standout characters for me are Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Jim Hopper (David Harbour). The relationships between each character felt so natural and authentic. My favorite relationship between the characters are Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). The way they executed a growing relationship between the two was perfect, and they have a great relationship on and off screen. David Harbour’s character (Jim Hopper) carried the show greatly with his role as the town police officer.

My favorite aspect of “Stranger Things” is the overall theme of the show. The intro to the series is brilliant. When you see “Stranger Things” glow in a red classic font, I never want to skip through. The score for “Stranger Things” sounds divine with the way the show was filmed. In the show, there is good, natural sound, acting and it fits the theme of an 1980’s small town.

Overall I enjoyed the first season of “Stranger Things” for its characters, theme and the story of three friends uncovering many secrets about the strange world.
