Girls Basketball Season Heats Up

Girls Basketball Season Heats Up

Though the season got off to a rocky start, the varsity girls basketball team has since gained momentum to maintain a current 8-3 record. The JV team has also played strongly since the start of their season, only dropping one game for a 8-1 record. The JV team won 44-18 against rivals from East on Dec. 14, and the varsity team lost 38-43 in overtime.
Freshman Kaylie Harmon is on the varsity team this year and reflects on some of their trials and successes so far this season.
“Probably one of our tough wins was Shelbyville, and that was a game where each one of us helped each other and we all added in some type of way to win the game,” Harmon said.
Harmon aspires to help all of her teammates bring their best effort to the court and foster the team community that contributes to such wins.
“I just want to be a leader for our team,” Harmon said. “I want to be able to help other people on our team be the best that they can be.”
In future matches, Harmon hopes to work on sharing play more and adjusting to not having a teammate in the game.
“I would like to improve on moving the ball more,” Harmon said. “Right now one of our starting point guards is out, so I think moving the ball and getting other people touches is important.”
Both girls basketball teams will compete next in a home match against Jennings County on Dec. 19.
